Groups of protesting farmers on Tuesday entered Red Fort after breaching police barricades, attacking personnel and even vandalising a bus at ITO. Meanwhile, one protester has been killed near ITO after he was shot at and the tractor he was driving toppled. A cop has also been injured at Red Fort. Protesting farmers drove their tractors inside the red fort. By that time, the official event was over. a group of farmers also reached an empty flag pole and climbed on top of the pole and unfurled what the protestors called Nishan Saheb flag. There have been allegations that it was a Khalistani flag but the farmers clarified that it was a religious flag.
The chaos unfolded despite the police giving farmers camping at Delhi’s three borders — Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur — permission to hold rallies on specific routes, only after the official Republic Day parade at Rajpath. As per the agreement, farmers were to remain in the adjoining areas of the borders and not venture towards Central Delhi. The police resorted to lathi-charge and tear gas to control the protesters after they breached the barricades at the three borders.
The protesters were seen chasing police personnel with sticks. The policemen also resorted to lathi-charge and fired teargas shells to disperse the crowd. Groups of protesting farmers broke police barricades to force their way into the national capital and reached Central Delhi on Tuesday.
